nyc food adventures

*this is from an email i wrote with some minor changes*

when sarah and i got to nyc we were pretty hungry. i was kinda disoriented and blanked out on where to go so decided we'd just walk around and find a place nearby the hotel (oddly enough the hotel didnt have a restaurant that served dinner... only breakfast)

we started walking and found a place called 'the Volstead'. it was more of a bar/lounge but looked really nice in there. the food was fine but sarah ordered this 'steak frites' and she didnt like it because it was too chewy. i told her not to order steak every time she goes somewhere but why would she listen to me? ofcourse my grilled tuna with stir fry was awesome.

bilu finally arrived in nyc after his epic adventure with northwest airlines... they cancelled his 11am flight from detroit due to a non-existent tornado in nyc and basically effed him around until he got on a 8pm flight. he met up with us and we all walked over to 53rd&6th. i had some of his food but unfortunately i had just eaten so i couldnt eat too much. it was good and talk about a long lineup!!

the next day (saturday) sarah and i ate at a 'cafe metro' for breakfast. nothing fancy it was a quick thing to eat. we met up with some friends and did a 'duck tour' around the city and into the hudson river. walked around a bit and decided to grab a bite before we all went to see lion king on boradway. they took us to a place called 'cafeteria'. at first i was like 'um what?!' but then they said it wasnt an actual cafeteria but a restaurant that got good reviews. we went there and the place was happening... but the waiters were extremely feminine. other than that and a long wait for our food i liked it. lion king was good by the way

on sunday, our friends invited us to brunch at some place called 'doves tail'. i had never heard of it but i wanted to go since they invited us. we show up to his fancy place... sarah, bilu and i were like shit we're underdressed haha. but we werent that underdressed really (since it was brunch) and we had an awesome meal there. that night my friends wanted to go to that kebob king place but i wasnt in the mood for desi food. plus they started singing that jingle for the place and that was a big turn-off haha. we went to a place called patsys pizzaria for some new york pizza and it was sooooo good. i loved it

monday is when we really started to eat at some iqballin' places. first we went to little italy for lunch and just randomly chose a place to eat. thankfully the three of us (sarah, bilu and me) enjoyed our food. i had this extremely tasty seafood risotto. i dunno why but i ate a lot of seafood while in nyc, just happened like that. the place was called Lunella. the reviews on tripadvisor.com are pretty crappy but we had a great experience there.

we hit up the brooklyn bridge but that day was beyond hot; very sticky and humid, we could barely handle being outside. we (sarah and me) eventually went back to the hotel and rested and showered up and then went to this place called Tao for dinner. it was insane in there. i told a coworker yesterday about it and she said she saw it on 'sex and the city'. i, thankfully, did not know about it from that show or i probably wouldnt have gone there. but it was crazy busy and the food was seriously fancy and effin' good. i was worried going for 'chinese food' but this place was the next level. great service and great food. the place was jam packed on a monday night too and by the time we left the place at 9pm there was a huge crowd waiting to be seated

on tuesday we went to gordon ramsay's restaurant 'maze' at the london hotel. it was a really nice place as expected. top notch service and the food was great. sarah ordered this seared tuna appetizer that she loved and i got the lobster bisque. they brought me a bowl with a lil itty bitty chunk of mashed up stuff in the middle and i sorta gave it a WTF look. after a dramatiq two seconds, they poured in the lobster soup stuff. it was really good. sarah got some chicken for her main and i got a super juicy ribeye steak. no complaints for sure. the dessert was above average... chocolate cake thing for sarah and cheesecake for me. we ended up swapping because we liked each others dessert better. i found that the cheesecake looked better than it tasted and maybe that threw me off. after the bill they gave us peanut brittle and these chocolate truffles. i think the peanut brittle was really good but i wouldnt know since sarah ate it all. the truffles were pimpin. that was a nice way to end the food aspect of our trip

rain man

what's up with the weather? i thought it was supposed to be super stiqy iqy iqy in summer?
ya know, humidity? unless you want to call lotsa lotsa rainfall humidity.

im not gonna complain too much, because its not like i have to shovel rain. but it is raining a tad more than id like. but im using the rain to seg into the rain man scene from the hangover. maybe some of ya didnt notice it but if ya saw rain man then you'd know.

you know how movie critiqs say 'funniest movie of the year'. isnt weird that they say that before the year is over? how about waiting til the end of the year before making such a claim??

i will forgive any critiqs that said the hangover is the funniest movie of the year though. thats how i roll

missing hockey

hockey season is over. i wish it was all year long. some may say it is considering there are exhibition games played in september and the playoffs end in june. that still leaves two and half months of that empty hockeyless feeling.

basketball and football arent even on either. baseball is gaining a bit more popularity in my books but there are like 200 games a season, way too many to follow. watching baseball is sometimes just as fun as watching artificial turf grow.

i recently tried to fill the hockeyless void in my life by watching cricket. pakistan and sri lanka were in the finals of the "twenty20" or T20 finals. World Cup finals apparently. surprisingly the game started on time and by the time i started watching sri lanka had already batted. they got 180 runs or something like that but all of the players were 'out' so they couldnt score anymore. this meant that team pakistan had to get more than 180 within 20 overs. an over is like 6 pitches, i think.

so i sat there and pakistan was doing well. when the guy with the paddle hit the ball over the fence for a home run, he gets 6 points or runs, something like that. and when he hits it and it rolls/bounces to the fence before the outfielder guy stops it, he gets 4 points/runs. otherwise you just hit the ball and run back and forth between the bases... er the wickets. the wickets are these skinny sticks that make up the strike zone per se.

if the pitcher hits the sticks and they smash into a thousand peices then consider yourself out. or if youre dumb enough to stand in front of the sticks and the pitcher (aka baller pronounced bowler) hits you, then youre out. it would probably hurt anyways.

i watched and the uncles enjoyed every moment, especially the home runs. i started getting into it a bit too. then pakistan finally got more runs then sri lanka (hahaha losers) and won the world cup!!! yay pakistan!

it was a great time. i miss hockey

Wrong number

the other day some random lady emailed me asking some payroll question.
i dont know who she is, i never worked with her or anything. she got the proverbial wrong number, but in email form
i reply to her saying 'you got the wrong email address'.
she replies saying thanks
life went on and all was well until a few minutes later when i received another email from the same lady.
she asked the same question and this time spelled the last name with a G instead of a Q.
realising that this person doesnt know how to change an email address i do not reply to the second email.
im nice but not that nice (i guess)

the next morning i get to work and open up my email, guess who emailed me?
she asked the exact same question AGAIN
this time i reply to her:

hello, you have the wrong email address as i mentioned yesterday.
perhaps you should try using the phone to contact the person
good luck and have a great day

she apologized and i havent heard back from her since then... (yet?!?)

Wash your hands

i am disgusted by the number of guys that go to the bathroom and dont wash their hands afterwards.
you think youre so clever because you dont piss on your hands? congratulations. now be a good boy and go wash your hands.
there are a number of peoploe that go number-2 (yes, i said number-2) and dont wash. are you feeling ok?
i dont care how careful you are. just take the extra 10-15 seconds and wash up

no sugar tonight in my coffee

i went to starbucks this morning
and ahead of me was a typical bitchy looking girl
ordering a bitchy drink... you know: low fat this, extra foam that, extra blah blah blah blah blah
then i get my drink and proceed to one of two sugar/cream counters
bitchy girl is at the first one and is taking forever
i saw her dump 3 packs of splenda into her bitchy coffee
i get tired of waiting and i move on to the next milk/sugar station which just became available
and proceed to put my cream/honey in my coffee
then a min later bitchy girl shows up beside me and grabs like 10 packs of splenda and walks off
i watched her steal splenda... who does that?! (steal splenda, not watching someone steal splenda)

props to anyone who knows where i got the title of this post from without the aid of the google
